Shipping and storage of liquid assets – not a topic that appeals to everyone, perhaps, but to leaders in the petrochemical, food processing and other industries with liquid shipping needs, it is a critical step in manufacturing. Many industries need to transport raw ingredients from one plant to another, or require a temporary storage or mixing vessel, and stainless steel totes are an efficient, cost-effective solution to these challenges.

To sharpen your IBC knowledge, Metano presents IBC Tote Trivia:

1)   IBC totes truck on!

How many totes can fit on a standard trailer?

Assuming your tanks are empty, you can stack 52, 350-gallon stainless steel totes on a single 53' trailer. In general, empty totes can be stacked up to 4 high or per manufacturer guidelines.

2)   No rust here!

Can IBC totes be stored outside and exposed to the elements?

And survey says…. Yes! Stainless steel tanks are weather-resistant and can be stored virtually anywhere; even outside for extended periods. They will not rust.

3)   Meeting industry requirements!

What is the required timeframe for inspection of IBC tanks?

This is an area that is strictly governed by the DOT. General guidelines call for leak testing every 2.5 years, beginning with the date of manufacture (or repair) to ensure the integrity of the tote. Learn more about specific guidelines

4)   Eco-friendly storage solution!

Are stainless steel tanks recyclable?

This is one of the best reasons to consider a reusable stainless steel tote option. They can last for decades when properly cared for, but can be fully recovered and reprocessed into other products when service life is complete.

5)   I can save how much?

What is the anticipated savings that can be realized with IBC totes?

Projected savings can reach up to 70% when you move from standard drums to reusable IBC totes. Total savings includes transportation, labor, storage and other costs. Calculate your savings with our free IBC e-Guide!
