At Metano, we like to call it “IBC TLC” – the essential maintenance guidelines we follow to care for IBCs. We realize that when your totes are well maintained and treated with some “TLC” they can last for decades, and have a much higher perceived value to your clients. But over time, the repeated motion of filling, moving and transporting can take a toll on containers. Here are a few tips to help you care for your IBCs and make them last for the long haul:
Always lift totes from the side WITHOUT the discharge valve to prevent damage to the vent unit and possible leakage.
• Remove lids with carePressure can build up inside the container, so be sure to slowly release the pressure in the tank by releasing the bung. To avoid injury, always release the pressure first.
• Never overfillTo avoid overfilling and spillage, be certain the tank valve is closed and locked and the second closure is installed.
• CleaningDepending on the contents, the stainless steel may require a thorough professional cleaning and sanitation between fills. Consult our team for more information.
• Regular inspectionVisual inspection is important to identify cracks and corrosion, but there are also required testing procedures to ensure that materials are transported under the best circumstances.
